Chicago Metro Metal Consortium (CMMC)

CMMC supports and strengthens the region’s metal manufacturing cluster by promoting the Chicago metro region as a leading center for manufacturing, strategically and efficiently aligning stakeholder efforts, and offering manufacturers resources to grow their businesses.

The Chicago Metro Metal Consortium (CMMC) was formed in 2014 and was designated by the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration, an Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership” (IMCP) which offered the region a unique opportunity to implement a cluster-based economic development strategy focused on metal and machinery manufacturing. CMMC, which encompasses the seven counties of northeastern Illinois (Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will) and the city of Chicago, has been working with partners across the region to support manufacturing and bring more economic opportunities to the larger metro Chicago area.

Since its formation, CMMC has developed into a pivotal platform for stakeholders that support the regional manufacturing industry. CMMC has grown from 25 to over 100 diverse partners from government, universities, research institutions, workforce agencies and training colleges, trade associations, other member organizations, and private businesses. CMMC convenes its partners to discuss opportunities for collaboration, economic development organizations to advance innovative and thoughtful initiatives, and manufacturers to engage in supporting workforce and program development that will support the broader manufacturing ecosystem.

CMMC has developed programs and activities which support and advance the region’s metal and machinery cluster, such as successful supply chain matchmaking events. And over the last three years, CMMC has leveraged over $46 million in public and private resources directly impacting manufacturers in Illinois, with a focus on strengthening small and medium sized manufacturers and making Chicago a global manufacturing powerhouse.
